Founded in 1977, Stained Glass Supplies used to be one of many such shops around Los Angeles. But as stained glass has fallen out of vogue, most of the other ones have closed. Still, there's a dedicated group of crafters who want to learn how to make beautiful windows and lampshades and decorative items. They can learn at Stained Glass Supplies, which offers classes to crafters of all skill levels. The classes are held four days a week, in mornings and evenings, in a room in the back of the store. Students learn the basics of the copper foil and lead techniques, and they learn how to cut, grind and fit together glass pieces like a jigsaw puzzle. The classes cost $100 per eight-week session, plus supplies, which can be purchased in the store. Subsequent classes drop to $80 per session.
