You'll find a thousand and one cute, weird, bright, clever, bizarre, shiny, funky, funny things at Black Market on Sawtelle. On paper, you would call Black Market a “lifestyle” store. In person, it looks like nothing so much as the living room of a creative, hyperacquisitive, impossibly hip youth obsessed with Asian and American pop culture and possessed of considerable discretionary income. This is where you go to buy, say, Joyrich x Keith Haring string bikinis and T-shirts that proclaim “Just Do U.” And sure, you could drive across town to the Kid Robot vinyl-toy specialty store to pick up a Smorkin Labbit rabbit sculpture, but you'd miss out on the chance to browse the Rastafarian Casio G-shock collaboration watches, the rubber chicken purses, the long Blee Inara chain necklaces (which you can wear three ways) and the Lomography cameras that Black Market so aptly merchandises alongside them. Don't recognize any of those proper names? No worries. The Black Market sales clerks are always happy to explain the stylistic cross-pollinations. 2023 Sawtelle Blvd., W.L.A. (310) 966-1555, blackmarketla.com.
