If you're looking for rock radio stations in L.A., your choices most days of the week are basically the station that plays alt-rock from the mid-2000s and the two stations that play jock rock from the '70s. That's why it's always a moment of instant joy to hear the messy jangle of Television Personalities' song “Part Time Punks” on Thursdays at 3 p.m. on KXLU — it's the theme song for Michael Stock's punk-music show of the same name. What's great about the show is Stock's knowledge and love of the whole spectrum of punk music, from the funk-punk of A Certain Ratio to the proto-pop-punk of Big Star. Equally important is his love and support of L.A. punk bands and musicians, from the heyday of the Smell to kids making noise and pissing off their parents now.
