If you merit a bumper sticker that says, “I Brake for Vintage Clothes,” Golyester, jam-packed with one-of-a-kind, high-quality fashions, is for you. But be forewarned: These aren’t Goodwill schmattas. The finds can be pricey but worth it. Owner Esther Ginsberg (as in “Golly, Esther”), who originally opened her store in Venice circa 1978, selects unique items with what she calls “special detail.” That can mean exquisite hand-sewn embroidery, superior workmanship, a unique print, fine lacework or statement pieces dating as far back as 100 years. “I don’t focus on designer labels, I focus on design,” she says. You can easily spend a couple of hours here oooing and ahhhhing over the shoes, hats, jewelry, lingerie, swimsuits, capes, coats, menswear and the rare-finds section behind glass. There’s usually a sale rack and, if you ask politely, sometimes a secret stash. 136 S. La Brea Ave., Mid-City. (323) 931-1339. —Heidi Dvorak
