The Record Parlour is a fun, eclectic music mecca in the heart of Hollywood but, unlike its neighbor Amoeba, this music store has a comparatively laid-back vibe. It sells records from all genres, from world music to rock and everything between. Instead of CDs, the focus is on used vinyl, classic posters and vintage music equipment. The owner is SoCal native Chris Honetschlaeger, a former director and producer for an NBC music television channel called BETA Records TV. “Kind of like Sesame Street meets The Ed Sullivan Show,” he says. He started buying record collections for the set and realized he didn't know what to do with the 250,000-plus LPs afterward, so he created a store to sell them. Honetschlaeger opened the Record Parlour in August 2013 but it has only come into its own recently, since its owner decided to do more than just sell records. It has become a one-stop shop for music lovers and fans: “You can cut a record, sell a record and perform a record all under one roof,” he says. The all-encompassing vinyl experience seems to be paying off: Honetschlaeger's next project is an adjacent music venue called the Americana Lounge, scheduled to open in December.
