Ovarian Psycos Bicycle Brigade has serious street cred as one of L.A.'s most politically conscious bike crews, and Clitoral Mass is its pinnacle event (this year it was held Aug. 1). Since 2012, the annual summer ride has been bringing together hundreds of women and woman-identified cyclists. The organizers are seasoned, fast, gutsy riders, and the distances are ambitious (think: a loop from Watts to Pasadena), but all levels of riders are welcome. After sage smudging and light yoga, the cyclists set off, blasting Bikini Kill and trading high-fives, while volunteers and mechanics pace the group, keeping everyone together and patching flats. Several pit stops provide free water, fruit and vegan burritos, along with pamphlets on issues such as gentrification and safer sex. For the Ovas, biking is all about empowering communities, and there's nothing more empowering than riding through L.A. with a group of badass women.
