If you're in the mood to get a little dirt under your fingernails, nothing could be better, fresher or more fun than picking your own vegetables. Underwood Farms takes the hardest part out of farming and allows visitors to grab a wagon, head out into its expansive fields and pick their own. Crops such as lettuce, peppers, beans and strawberries are available according to season, and easy-to-read signs explain the proper picking techniques and the prices; produce is paid for by the pound upon leaving. It's a soulful way to connect to the earth and our food. The Underwood family and their ancestors have been working the soil in this area for six generations, back to 1867. Harvest Festival in the fall, with pumpkins galore, is the farm's busiest time of the year, while an animal center and petting zoo keep the young ones entertained year-round.
