Dodgeball in L.A. is serious business. Multiple leagues boast hundreds of players, many of whom devote hours per week to the sport — some even going semi-pro. There's strategy, there's camaraderie and there's commitment. It's also a lot of fun. So how do you break into this beast of a scene? The easiest way in is the Open Gym program run by the World Dodgeball Society. To play in these pickup games, you need not join the league or be on a team. Just show up to the designated rec center with $5 and you can get to dodging with players of all levels. It's a great way to learn the rules and build your skills in a noncompetitive environment. And while you're at it, you might just pick up a couple of new pals, too.
