A 5,000-square-foot warehouse for apparel and art, Church Boutique may be situated on a busy section of Santa Monica Boulevard, but it retains a mystique, owing not only to a lack of signage but also to the fact the entire building is swathed in ivy, lending it the feel of Fred Segal by way of The Secret Garden. Inside is another world, one inspired by Victorian Gothic sentimentalities, the Do LaB aesthetic and Japanese tastes. Exposed wood beams and pipes on the second floor host hooks, upon which hang $2,000 dresses and a surreal David Lynch painting, perfectly at home with a dining set that recalls the Last Supper. Owners Rodney Burns and David Malvaney source from all over but take pleasure in stocking the best L.A. labels. From Odyn Vovk's line of menswear to Maria Dora's whimsically feminine pieces to leather-trimmed capes by Valerj Pobega, the temptation to max out your credit card will run high — this definitely isn't the kind of church meant to curb your vices. 7277 Santa Monica Blvd., W. Hlywd. (323) 876-8887, churchboutique.com.
