Is IKEA beyond your means just now? Is your cozy and overpriced apartment sized about right for an inexpensive nightstand with attached lamp? Or are you still an analog junkie who loves the sound of scoring a decent VHS TV combo for $9.99? Then Son of a Vet Thrift Shop is where you should head. Yeah, these are all second-hand items, but they're in good condition, acquired through donations to the store, and they're incredibly affordable. The turnover of goods is fast, so on any given day there's no telling what you'll find at this El Sereno shop, which is much of the charm of the place. It's a friendly, 8-year-old, family-owned business, thriving even in a region crammed with thrift stores — they're planning to open a second location in Alhambra sometime next year.
