Apartment dwellers on a budget — which is, let's admit it, all of us — often feel as if they have two choices for furnishing their homes: Ikea or Craigslist. Neither is all that appealing. But Angelenos have a third option that keeps both McApartments and weird stains at bay: Apt2B. A homegrown L.A. company that operates locally and supports local vendors, Apt2B sells new, modern-looking furniture at prices that won't eat up your entire rent check. Unless you want it to, that is. Sofas can run $319 to nearly $2,000, and TV stands go from $69 to almost $800, but even the bargain stuff looks très chic. The only catch? There is no showroom. But that keeps prices low, and if you don't like an item upon delivery, they'll take it right back. Co-founders Mat Herman and Alex Back like to say, “Whether you're starting up or starting over, Apt2B should be your go-to place to outfit your home.” Considering they sell enough home goods to merit an entire category called “Thingamajigs,” we'd have to agree.
