The Center for Land Use Interpretation is not quite a museum. Like its neighbor, the Museum of Jurassic Technology, it's more of a meta-museum. It also carries a bonanza of books on any subject, as long as it's a subject related to the land. The center's shop occupies only a few shelves in a corner of its exhibition space, but it's a high-grade collection of fascinating titles, bound to appeal to someone in your life. Where else can you find books or DVDs on nuclear test sites, tourist caverns, hydromancy, landfills and sloss furnaces? Amazon.com, maybe — but nowhere more palpably and intriguingly than in this space. You'll also find old Western U.S. postcards by the pioneering Merle Porter at only $1 apiece, and a rack of free tourist brochures from around the nation, which are a staple of every Best Western motel lobby. 9331 Venice Blvd., Culver City, 90232.
