Like coffee shops and dive bars, small breweries are sprouting up in just about every neighborhood. Three Weavers, which opened in Inglewood last October, is the most promising of them. Brewmaster Alexandra Nowell has the precision of a surgeon, and her clean, crisp beers — from the flagship Deep Roots ESB to collaboration brews spiked with ingredients such as coffee and yuzu — are balanced enough to make Northern California jealous and bitter enough to give San Diego a run for its money. Nowell cut her teeth at heavy-hitter craft breweries Sierra Nevada and Drake's before moving to L.A. in 2013, the same year she won two medals at the Great American Beer Festival while helming Kinetic Brewing in Lancaster. Not long after, she linked up with Lynne Weaver (whose daughters are the three Weavers) — and the rest is L.A. beer history.
