Pop-Hop Books & Print makes a great respite from a day of browsing the many, many used-clothing boutiques that line Highland Park's York Boulevard. Started in 2012 by Robey Clark and Sarah Balcomb using $10,000-plus in Kickstarter funding, the tiny space packs in everything an Eastside bookstore needs: walls of bare-bones shelves that make you feel as if you're in a friend's apartment, a local authors' table, a zine rack, a living room–like children's corner, local author readings and even music performances. Plus, in the back is a screenprinting and bookbinding space that offers public workshops, and the store's website invites pitches for other class ideas. 5002 York Blvd., Highland Park, 90042.
