The respectably eco-conscious and food-justice-focused Red Bread Bakery, founded by Rose and David Lawrence in 2012, finally opened its first brick-and-mortar store in Culver City in July. What started as an electric-bike delivery service for Lawrence's rustic, wild-yeast breads, natural jams and charcuterie quickly evolved into one of the most popular booths at the Santa Monica Wednesday farmers market. Now its original take on items such as Russian black bread, flavored marshmallows, Montreal-style bagels, seeded granola and the excellent Cracked Cookies can be purchased at the salvage-chic storefront on Washington Boulevard. Red Bread also serves delicious breakfast, lunch and tea. The store and community gathering space stocks local food products and features stunning menus created by Chalk and Art. Supporting the little startup does good for the community, too, with 5 percent of sales going to the L.A. Food Bank. 13322 W. Washington Blvd., Culver City.
