Though this sector of Little Tokyo is ripe with tourists, it's the locals who shop at Kimski Makes, a hip haven for Japanese girls and those who want to dress like them. Upon entering the shop, a large plastic dinosaur greets you, reminding you that you're not in Forever 21 land anymore (though the prices are comparable: $30-$40 for dresses, $15-$25 for jewelry). The store's selection isn't massive but it's carefully curated, offering a selection of jumpsuits, printed dresses and one-off apparel items such as faux suede shorts. Once you've made your selections, you'll end up at the register staring into the dinosaur's blank face. Small, colorful plastic bags with $8 price tags rest next to him, each containing five pairs of mystery earrings. For $8, it's a fun way to end up with some unlikely new charms. And if you don't like your grab-bag contents, give them to a surprised friend. 369 E. 2nd St., Little Tokyo; (213) 626-0340, kimski.com.
