The Peace Awareness Labyrinth & Gardens, a West Adams day retreat on the grounds of the Church of the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness, offers harried Angelenos a chance to try the ancient practice of labyrinth walking. Labyrinths have been used for centuries as part of mystical and religious traditions; while the center offers classes and seminars related to the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness, you'll see locals and visitors from all over L.A. slowly pacing the hard-carved stone labyrinth for their own meditative reasons. In the relentless clatter of the city, it's soothing to walk the stone passages and reconnect with your inner self. You may wish to prepare yourself, dialing back the mental noise, by first exploring the cool, shady garden with its rock fountains and pools, or relaxing in the foyer of the center's Italian Renaissance mansion. You're welcome to come in, hang out and simply be. 3500 W. Adams Blvd., Jefferson Park. (323) 737-4055, peacelabyrinth.org.
