In a city as vast and diverse as Los Angeles, it can be difficult to feel at home. Ask co-workers or friends for advice on places to go, and it turns out no one is actually from here. Enter @hiddenla (Hidden Los Angeles) on Twitter. Lynn Garrett, a fifth-generation Angeleno, began to blog about the city in 2009. On Twitter, she wants to share “tips, events and cool stuff about L.A. as a place, history and culture.” Recently, she's tweeted about a hidden culinary gem in Highland Park, footage of the Queen Mary from 1971 and a yodeling great-great-grandmother from Carson. But what makes Hidden Los Angeles unique is the personal tone. “My grandpa was a San Pedro fisherman. Here he is in 1946, with my mother anxiously waiting for him. He named his boat after her,” she captioned an image tweeted in early July. These deep roots give Hidden Los Angeles authority and credibility. And with several signature events throughout the year, it's becoming a community anyone would want to be a part of.
