Shopping outside the box? Goods at L.A.'s weekend flea markets and pop-up craft fairs rival the one-of-a-kind finds of the celebrated bazaars in Paris, Rome and Brooklyn. In Silver Lake, on the second Saturday of each month, the independently run Silver Lake Art Craft & Vintage brings an arty and eclectic set of vendors together on the Micheltorena Street Elementary School yard. The market appeals to the DIY set, post-brunchers and serious collectors out for a good deal; there are a mix of vintage clothes, artisan-made and vintage jewelry, vinyl, pop culture artifacts, crafts and craft supplies. From twee jewelry made from recycled fabrics and buttons to kitschy collectibles, there's always a down-home selection. In part a benefit for the school, the market offers a breezy vibe, plus sweet activities like Ping-Pong and giant puppets. A revolving set of food trucks drops by, too. Free admission and parking; stop by just for the fly fashion parade of people and pets. 1511 Micheltorena St. at Micheltorena Street Elementary School, Silver Lake.
