Pasadena's Langham Huntington boasts the old-school grandeur of a Ritz-Carlton (and it was one, once), and is tucked into an upscale residential neighborhood — putting it out of view and out of the way. The grounds are lovely, containing well-groomed courtyards, a Japanese garden and the Picture Bridge, which overlooks the pool. Its calm milieu compared to central L.A. hotels makes it the perfect place to take a dip — even if you're not a guest. The pool is next to the Terrace restaurant, so all you have to do is valet your car and walk in the restaurant's direction, then continue to the pool (no keycards necessary). With provided towels, a bar and a cocktail waitress on hand, there's no reason to tolerate your community pool again — and if you do eat at the restaurant, you can validate there and get free parking. Just act classy and no one will suspect a thing. (Of course, you could always do the right thing and get a room.) 1401 S. Oak Knoll Ave., Pasadena. (626) 568-3900, pasadena.langhamhotels.com.
