There are other legendary gyms in Los Angeles, but this one rules when it comes to redefining what it means to fight like a girl. As home gym to the ESPYs' 2015 Best Fighter Ronda Rousey, Glendale Fighting Club dominates in the world of UFC, attracting fans, amateurs, pros and regular people looking to learn to fight. Owner and Rousey trainer Edmond Tarverdyan is occupied with the pros from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but anyone over 5 years old is welcome to train weekdays from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The least expensive plan starts at two classes per week for $100 per month, and the classes — which include karate, judo, Muay Thai and boxing — are taught by Tarverdyan or one of two other professional MMA coaches. All of the equipment is open for student use, and for inspiration you need only look to a quotation wall filled with handwritten messages penned by Rousey herself. Among them: “Boxing has rhythm just like music. Create your own rhythm and make your opponent dance under it.” Rousey's even been known to encourage you from the sidelines if she's in town.
