The Encino Velodrome is the perfect place for cyclists who like to ride fast without being hit with a face full of diesel. The 250-meter oval concrete track banks at 28 degrees, and riders can safely reach speeds of up to 45 mph. The grassroots, volunteer-run, nonprofit facility boasts a packed roster of year-round training opportunities and classes for kids and adults, with most priced at $10. Weekly events include Tuesday Racing, Thursday's Youth and Junior Training and Monday's Motor Morning Pacing (motorcycles circle the track, and cyclists try to keep up). The Velodrome also was a former Olympic trials track, which means there are bragging rights attached to whipping around the bend at breakneck speed.
