If it bleeds, creeps, crawls, chomps on brains, invades from Mars or thrills you with the promise of a dark and stormy night, Mysterious Galaxy Books has it, in book form. Specializing in mystery, fantasy, science fiction and horror, the Redondo Beach shop wisely focuses on genre literature in the wake of the great economic collapse that felled many a mainstream brick-and-mortar bookseller. And if you're gonna do genre, do it well. Here, both the stalwarts and the obscure are accounted for. In the sci-fi section, the works of Philip K. Dick and Orson Scott Card rub shoulders with photo books on fairy houses and zombie apocalypse readers. Gaiman, Koontz and King anchor the horror shelves, reinforced by a small army of midlist gore-mongers. There are potboilers aplenty in the mystery section, and in the Young Adult corner you'll find just about every known iteration of the girl-falls-in-love-with-vampire or -werewolf novel. Too scary? Relax. There is also a coffee bar. 2810 Artesia Blvd., Redondo Beach. (310) 542-6000, mystgalaxy.com.
