If you're a flea market junkie, odds are you've done time at the Rose Bowl, where rabid crowds can rival those attending the venue's football games. But head 4½ miles east on a different Sunday to the Pasadena City College Flea Market, and you'll find a first-class flea market in a relatively bucolic campus setting, with handy $2 parking just a short walk away. PCC's flea market features 420 vendors from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on the first Sunday of every month. There in the parking lots and covered structure (no sunblock needed!) on the east side of campus, you can wander among the antiques and collectibles, the beautiful junk and happy detritus of 21st-century America. Of special note: You'll find dozens of vinyl and used-music vendors on the third level of the Bonnie Street parking structure. Not only will you be spared the entrance fee charged by lesser markets but you can be happy in the knowledge that you're supporting student scholarships — all proceeds from the market, which was started in 1977 by PCC students Tom and Tim Selinske, go to benefit the students, making this the largest nonprofit flea market on the West Coast. As if you needed another reason to troll for an Underwood typewriter and a stack of Jack Teagarden LPs. 1570 E Colorado Blvd., Pasadena. (626) 585-7906, pasadena.edu/fleamarket. —Amy Scattergood
