In the tradition of the Woman's Building, Womanspace and other past feminist art spaces in Los Angeles, the Women's Center for Creative Work (WCCW) is a hub for rad ladies working in artistic and creative fields. It was founded in November 2013 by Katie Bachler, Kate Johnston and Sarah E. Williams and finally opened its permanent location in May. The center has played host to exhibitions, workshops, dinners and other special events, and houses everything from grant-writing workshops to knitting and yoga classes, feminist storytelling, collage-making sessions and the 2,000-plus volumes of the Feminist Library on Wheels (FLOW), a roving bookcase-on-a-bike, packed with works by the likes of Simone de Beauvoir and Judith Butler. Coming soon are a printing press and an outpost for Echo Park's Otherwild shop. Think of WCCW as the “Inspired Women of Los Angeles” Facebook group, but IRL.
