This tucked-away equestrian enclave in southern Burbank, between Riverside Drive and the L.A. River, boasts weathered stables, the refreshing scent of soil and straw and a backdrop of dramatic mountains. It's a slice of pastoral America — which is one of the reasons that Good Pony is the perfect place in L.A to learn or practice horse riding. Another reason: Davee Hallinan. An equine professional for 30-plus years, Hallinan is what you'd call a “horse person,” but she's also a people person. Her specialty is comforting fearful riders, and she instructs everyone from kindergarteners to senior citizens, offering various packages of private riding sessions and teaching dressage, jumping, barn management and bareback riding. Hallinan has ridden all over the mountains and valleys of Southern California, which makes her an ideal guide, and she makes a point of incorporating dance movements — another passion of hers — into the riding lesson.
