Your scroungy little indie band just recorded some stellar tunes, and you want the world to hear them ASAP. But you don’t have the business chops to figure out the whole manufacturing thing. Head for Rainbo Records. Hands down, this is the go-to place for pros and wannabes alike, because these dudes have a longtime rep for knowing what they’re doing. If you’re an AARP member, you might remember the record on the Wheaties box, paper records in fan mags, talking toys (remember Chatty Cathy?) and picture records. This is the company that started it all. If you’re just sprouting facial hair, all you need to know is that this is the oldest and largest in-house manufacturer of all four formats: vinyl, cassette, DVD and CD. There’s a 71-year history of famous names who have had their records made here: the Beatles, Snoop Dogg, Lawrence Welk, Santana, Led Zeppelin, 2Pac, Paul Anka, Madonna, Metallica, Elvis Presley, Soundgarden and Flogging Molly, to mention a few. But even your financially strapped garage band can take advantage of the services offered, since at Rainbo, no order is too large or too small. Plus, for the production-challenged, this is the one-stop shop for mastering capabilities, in-house art design and packaging. Who wants to worry about that stuff when you’ve got a big gig in Silver Lake? 8960 Eton Ave., Canoga Park. (818) 280-1100, rainborecords.com. —Heidi Dvorak
