Since 2003, one of the hottest hangs on Hermosa's thriving Pier Avenue bar and restaurant scene has been “Med.” With an inviting indoor bar and dining room, but an even better outdoor patio for bikini- and board-short-clad people-watching, Mediterraneo was an immediate local hit for the killer tapas featuring Spanish, Italian, French and Greek inspirations and its extensive 30 wines-by-the-glass list. But in the ensuing eight years, Med has increasingly become known for its wonderful selection of 30 craft beers on tap. In a nice touch, Med serves each beer in each brewery's logo glass. The selection ranks right up there with the very best in the Southland, with highlights like Ballast Point Sculpin and Russian River's Pliny the Elder on a regular basis. From 5 to 7 p.m., locals know Mediterraneo has one of the best happy hours on the planet with 2-for-1 on most of the tapas and craft beers (no Bud or PBR here) at half price. We give the tapas and the beer selection an A-plus. The setting at L.A.'s best beach is even better than that. 73 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach. (310) 318-2666, mediterraneohb.com.
