To call Contempo Nails a nail salon is like calling the Queen Mary a boat. When you enter this bustling ode to O.P.I., you will be ushered immediately to an armchair by Diane Chiang, the diminutive proprietress/taskmaster/saint who has run this place with military precision for the last 30 years. Within minutes her staff will descend upon you, offering mani-pedis, shoulder massages and eyebrow waxing. Because the place is so cheap (a 20-minute massage is $12, a mani-pedi $25), you will say yes to everything. Like Dorothy's first hours in the Emerald City, someone will take your feet, someone will grab your hands, and a tall gentleman will stand behind you rubbing your neck. Can you even dye my eyes to match my gown? Yes? Jolly old town! If you aren't satisfied with the work, just tell Chiang — she'll make it right. 333 S. Robertson Blvd., Beverly Grove, 90291.
