The original and still the best, Create:Fixate is a bimonthly art and music showcase that's been around for more than 10 years now, and is widely acknowledged as one of the most effective places for young/new-to-town artists to launch careers, and at the same time, for young collectors to get their feet wet. In addition to a spread of large and small curated rooms and outdoor areas of visual and performance art, you'll find multiple areas flooded with sounds courtesy of the city's most progressive DJ stars. It's a nonprofit group, so audience participation benefits not only the artists and designers on offer and the walls and bodies of their collectors, but also the Create:Fixate family's network of charitable and cultural outreach programs — making this one social experience that's as rewarding for the civic-minded as it is for art lovers and people who like to dance with the lights on. 613 Imperial St., dwntwn.; (310) 590-7199, createfixate.com.
