Everyone knows it's more fun to shop for music at Amoeba Records after you've had a few. The store's just a couple blocks from Cat & Fiddle Pub. See where we're going here? A couple pints in you, and you're in a much better frame of mind to finger-walk through the stacks of CDs and vinyl that await. It's all a bit too perfect until nature calls. The store insists on not providing a public restroom, which is a poor decision on its part, because it'd do even better business (like it needs to do better business) if it encouraged lingering. But whatever you do, resist the restroom across the street at Jack in the Box — the clientele's creepy crawlers are more than off-putting. Walk the extra 25 yards to the welcoming one-holer at Groundwork. The fancier stalls at ArcLight might be a more attractive option, but there's a DIY rock vibe at this coffee joint that will keep you in a better mood for buying more raunchy CDs. 1501 N. Cahuenga Blvd., Hlywd. (323) 871-0107.
