When it comes to American regional comfort food, Southern barbecue tends to hog all the glory. But there is no comfort food more satisfying than a fully loaded, Pittsburgh-style sandwich. At the Steel City Sandwich truck, they serve up several variations of this blue-collar beast, all piled high with crisp french fries, tangy coleslaw and a fried egg, served right inside the sandwich alongside various deli meats. The Pittsburgh Cheesesteak, which bears little resemblance to its Philadelphia cousin, is the star here: Tender chunks of grilled flatiron mixed with melted provolone and onions, its juices seeping into soft, white slices of Italian bread, which strain to hold the sandwich together. You could go even bigger with the Steel Curtain, which features every other protein on the menu (turkey, pastrami, ham, salami and capicola), but you'll want to save room for the pierogis — or, better yet, some beer-battered, deep-fried apple pie. —Andy Hermann
