If you're a fan of the popular Moth storytelling shows every month but want to widen your storytelling circle, Public School offers an alternative. Unlike the Moth, where names are drawn out of a hat, this show has a predetermined lineup of writers and storytellers who range in scope and style. You may recognize some from radio shows such as This American Life, or not recognize them at all from their jokes and sketches written for Conan O'Brien. Storytellers are brought up onstage in the spacious, dark M Bar in Hollywood and given a few minutes to tell a true, personal story without using notes, based on a theme, such as “What's Wrong With Me?” The show is free, but a $10 minimum food or drink purchase is required. 1253 Vine St., Hlywd. publicschoolshow.tumblr.com.
