24-Year-Old Driver Dead after Semi-Truck Accident near Highway 43

BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 22, 2022) – Early Friday morning, Bernabe Lopez-Garcia died in a wrong-way big-rig crash on Stockdale Highway.

According to California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. on March 18, just west of Highway 43.

Police said 24-year-old Lopez-Garcia, of Arvin was driving a westbound 2004 Chevrolet when he veered into the eastbound lanes for reasons unknown. As a result, the Chevy collided head-on with an oncoming eastbound 2017 Kenworth big-rig.

Due to the impact of the crash, Lopez-Garcia sustained life-threatening injuries before he was later pronounced dead.  Meanwhile, the passenger, whose identity was being withheld, was taken to Kern Medical for treatment of major injuries.

Following preliminary investigations, alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the deadly crash.
