It was three years ago in December that the clubbing cognoscenti bid a tearful farewell to club night Mr. Black at Bardot, above the Avalon. Promoters Luke Nero and Andres Rigal have gone on to do some stellar soirees since, but none as magical as a night at Mr. Black.

It went beyond the waiters in top hats and assless pants, or the drag queens in other-level glitz and garb, or what DJs Josh Peace and Daisy O’Dell put on the decks. Mr. Black found an alchemy that only certain L.A. clubs can claim.

That final night at Bardot had a funeral theme, with a real coffin that ended up being posed in and trampled on by the party’s bodacious, black-clad gay and gay-friendly attendees. Turnout was so strong that in our coverage of the goodbye event, we already foresaw a “resurrection” looming.

Well, it took longer than we thought, but the return of L.A.’s chic-est mixed playground is finally here. Even though it’s at a new venue (the Belasco), we think Nero and Rigal can reanimate the Mister, and make him more virile than ever. It’s time to get back in Black, babes.
