Is California going off the rails on this crazy train? There's crazy money being poured into a high-speed rail line that would connect L.A. to San Francisco, and a big announcement that Washington has funneled another $900 million or so into the deal was made Monday — just days before the senatorial reelection test of bullet-train backer Barbara Boxer was set to go down.

Will that kind of cash impress upon voters the notion that Boxer can continue to bring jobs and federal largess to the Golden State?

Already some residents in the San Gabriel Valley say they'll oppose the train if it will mean the eminent-domain destruction of homes in the line's path.

That sentiment was echoed up north, too.

With nearly one in five people out of a job in California, is this the best way to spend almost a billion dollars (and counting)?
