One Washington D.C. job can now be marked off the list for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who appears to have his eyes on a major gig in the national's capital after he leaves office on June 30, 2013.

Last month, Politico columnist Alexander Burns wrote that Villaraigosa was “high on some lists” — whose lists Burns doesn't mention — to land the top job at the Democratic National Committee. But on Monday, President Barack Obama completely, and personally, nixed that idea.

On the president's official Twitter account, the Associated Press reported, Obama told the world that he wanted Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz to stay on as chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee.

“I've asked Debbie Wasserman Schultz to continue her excellent work as chair of the DNC,” Obama wrote. “Thanks for all you do, Debbie.”

It wasn't too long ago that Villaraigosa told a reporter he had to mull over a possible run for president — not for a bank or a non-profit or something, but for the presidency of the United States of America! But now he can't even land the DNC gig.

Thanks to blogger and gadfly John Walsh for the tip on the latest developments of Villaraigosa's search for a cushy job to hold him over until the race for the White House in 2016.
