Studio City isn't famous for its nightlife, for its sushi maybe, but now we have another option to consider: 3,000 square foot Bar BLVD, inside BLVD Hotel + Spa, opening Thursday, April 14th. The boutique hotel, which soft-opened February 4th with 58 rooms, is still smoothing out the kinks, opening its spa and café in the next few weeks. Though guests and entertainment industry folk have checked into the reasonably-priced hotel, decorated with mural graphics of the L.A. skyline, it's still being discovered.

“This is the first bar we incorporated into a hotel,” says Sagar Kumar, managing director of PNK Group, known for launching limited-service hotels such as the Holiday Inn Express. Kumar, who took over his father's company six years ago, describes the hotel and bar as a good place for escaping the “hoopla of Hollywood.” To get the full experience of the hotel, just steps from Universal City Walk, Kumar encourages visitors to book a room and stay overnight. If bartender Jesse Damron's drinks are as strong as they sound, we might just have to.

Featured cocktails, named after famous L.A. streets, include the Hollywood BLVD, combining Bacardi Razz, Koloa Hawaiian rum, sweet lime juice muddled with fruit, simple syrup and mint leaves. The Sunset BLVD pays homage to the star-studded road with Bombay Sapphire Gin, Zen Green Tea liqueur, Triple Sec and mint. There's also Wilshire BLVD, Ventura, La Cienega, and so on. Happy hour is from 5-7 p.m. nightly and regular priced cocktails range from $9-$14. “We're trying to keep the price range right. This is just the beginning,” Kumar says.
