What do you like to do for fun?

Sometimes we call our editor at 3 a.m. and say incredible breaking news! even though there is none. Apparently this guy likes to drive in strange ways.

Police say they busted a man in Glendale after spotting him driving in reverse for three miles. And it wasn't the first time he was having a good time behind the wheel, they claim …

… that 49-year-old Gurgen Gukasyan was also arrested Dec. 20 after allegedly driving in Verdugo Park, too, according to the Glendale News-Press. Authorities claim he did about $4,000 worth of damage that time.

This morning Gukasyan was allegedly spotted going 30 miles per hour on North Glendale Ave about 6 a.m. — in reverse. An off-duty cop spotted him and when officers arrived the suspect apparently said he was headed to a friend's house.

“It appears that he did want to take that vehicle and have some fun with it,” Sgt. Tom Lorenz told the News-Press.

Here's what we don't get: How did this guy get a Mazda to go 30 in reverse? Reverse gears are usually “short,” low, and “torquey” in car speak: They're utilitarian; they're not built for any kind of speed or momentum.

Maybe Gukasyan deserves a commendation instead of a ticket.

In any case, it's not yet clear if the D.A. will file anything against him. That would be backwards.
