Plenty of shows explore the drama going down at Hollywood’s hottest parties. But what about the drama going down in the backseats of Uber cars on the way to those Hollywood parties, between passengers who have no hope of getting in?

Backseat Bitches is the latest web series from Above Average, the digital arm of Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels’ production company, Broadway Video. It follows two hashtagging, instagramming, flask-sipping, leopard-clad BFFs, Jinny and Mimi, as they zip around L.A. to Macaulay Culkin’s birthday party and other events to which they are not invited.

Bitches is the brainchild of its stars, Melissa Hunter and Jessica Lowe, who met while attending Northwestern University and reconnected in L.A. when they were cast in the same sketch team at comedy theater iO West. Colton Dunn, Allan McLeod, Dave Horwitz and other familiar faces from the L.A. comedy scene guest star.

We never see inside the party, and there’s no need. Jinny’s and Mimi’s backseat sagas are ridiculously entertaining, full of carb yearnings, sexual seduction and the odd reflection on Andy Warhol’s later work. Though they’re just the awfulest, they’re also devoted friends whom you always end up rooting for.

“As horrible as these girls might be, we like to think of them as lovable losers,” explains Hunter, who became a partner at Above Average after the success of her dark comedy web series, Adult Wednesday Adams. “Their complete lack of self-awareness allows them to have unacceptably high expectations of where they’re going, which makes their fall (the ride home) even more crushing and hilarious.”
