Baby Tate Will Make You Put on Dungarees: The artist formerly known as Yung Baby Tate has dropped the Yung but retained the Baby, so the youthful energy is still there without doubling down. Or something.

She has a new single out called “Dungarees,” which is taken from the soundtrack to the movie Bruised. That’s an all-female soundtrack for the Netflix film, also featuring H.E.R., Saweetie, Dreamdoll and more.

The song, with its pulsing 808s, opens like an air raid siren. It’s an alarming, engaging intro, and the song kicks on from there. The Georgia artist raps: “Don’t you ever, ever come for me, ‘cuz you way, way down under me, b**ch put on some dungarees, and like a kangaroo do a jump for me.”

That’s hilarious, and intense. Baby Tate is going to humiliate anyone who attacks her.

Back in April 2019, Tate told us that, “I started writing and performing in third grade. I always knew it could be a career based off of watching my mom.” She was right.

Press release about Bruised:

“Jackie Justice (Halle Berry) is a mixed martial arts fighter who leaves the sport in disgrace. Down on her luck and simmering with rage and regret years after her last fight, she’s coaxed into a brutal underground fight by her manager and boyfriend Desi (Adan Canto) and grabs the attention of a fight league promoter (Shamier Anderson) who promises Jackie a life back in the octagon. But the road to redemption becomes unexpectedly personal when Manny (Danny Boyd, Jr.) — the son she gave up as an infant — shows up at her doorstep. BRUISED marks the directorial debut of Academy Award winner Halle Berry and also stars Adriane Lenox, Sheila Atim, Valentina Shev.”
