Highway 58 DUI Collision Left Woman One Dead, Suspect Arrested

BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 21, 2022) – On Friday, authorities arrested 27-year-old Ayana Council after a suspected DUI crash on Highway 58.

According to the CHP, officers responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash shortly after 8 p.m. on Highway 58 west of General Beale Road.

Initial investigation revealed that a 2016 Nissan Sentra made an unsafe turn onto the Westbound Highway 58.

As a result, the woman driving the Sentra left the road and crossed into the eastbound lanes and struck a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe head-on.

Unfortunately the Chevrolet Tahoe driver, identified as a 52-year-old woman, died at the scene.

In the end, Bakersfield Officials arrested the Sentra driver, Ayana Council, for suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.

Both directions of the roadway were temporarily closed to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties. An active investigation is currently underway.
