Once an underdog in popular culture, eSports is undeniably becoming part of the “big leagues,” so to speak. Insider Intelligence estimates that in 2022, “there will be 29.6 million monthly esports viewers in the US” alone. That’s not to mention the exploding popularity of esports internationally, where tens of millions more fans are invested in the success of their favorite teams. The riveting competition associated with esports has pushed talented teams onto the world stage to make international headlines. One of these notable groups is Bleed eSports, founded by Mervyn Goh.

Bleed eSports, based out of Singapore, is an award-winning team that’s hustled its way to the top. When first getting started, it was a bit of a challenge to get new players to join. They had to establish their reputation and make a name for themselves before entering competitions, which can be challenging. Considering the rising popularity of eSports, talented players had numerous options in terms of what direction they wanted to venture down.

“As a relatively new organization, some players were a bit reluctant. They felt like this was a huge risk considering they had to relocate to Singapore, where our main offices are located,” says Mervyn. Even so, Mervyn didn’t give up on his dream of establishing an eSports team and changing the sporting industry in Singapore and beyond.

He invested his time and resources in building a one-of-a-kind gaming house, equipping it with all the latest facilities. The equipment and gear provided to players can have a huge impact on not only their performance but their enthusiasm for the team as well. By investing in upgrading the gaming house, Bleed eSports was demonstrating that they were investing in their team members as well. Soon word spread, helping Bleed eSports become an internationally known team.

Today, Bleed eSports is one of the first Asian teams in Valorant that has imported players from Europe and Asia. They have contracted some of the top players across the globe, including former G2 Esports player Jacob “Pyth” Mourujärvi and former CS: GO pro-Max “Maxie” Lönnström.

Due in part to their outstanding team of talents, Bleed eSports has also earned numerous notable awards. They finished first in the SEA Esports Championship 2021: Singaporean Qualifier. The team was second in the VCT 2022: Malaysia & Singapore Stage 1 Challengers and third in The VCT 2022: APAC Stage 1. The latter was their first competition, at which point Bleed eSports was just five months old. Since they were in the early stages of growth, the team was just becoming familiar with the industry. This is why it was such an honor to come in third place.

Speaking about the future, Bleed eSport’s goal is to continue making an impact in the esports industry as they build a much stronger team. While it is always challenging to get started, those passionate about competitive video gaming should never be afraid to chase their dreams. The only way to know what’s on the other side is by walking through the door.
