80-Year-Old Woman Killed in Traffic Accident on Morgan Road

MODESTO, CA (July 28, 2022) –  Friday night, police arrested Jose Prado Diaz after a DUI crash on Morgan Road, that killed Avina Loreto.

The incident happened on July 22nd, around 10:15 p.m., at the border of Modesto and Ceres, near the intersection of Morgan Road and East Whitmore Avenue.

According to police, Loreto was a passenger in a Ford Explorer that was stopped at an intersection. Diaz, in his vehicle, rear-ended the Ford, causing the Ford to collide with two other cars that were waiting at the light.

As a result of the impact, Loreto sustained serious injuries; three other occupants of the Ford also suffered mild to moderate wounds. Diaz was also injured in the crash.

Paramedics arrived shortly after and pronounced 80-year-old Loreto dead at the scene. Additionally, they transported the other three injured victims, and Diaz to a local hospital for treatment.

The occupants of the two other involved vehicles were unharmed.

After his hospitalization, police arrested Diaz and charged him with DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
