Over the weekend we learned that one of the precious little victims of the Newtown, Connecticut mass shooting was a Southern Californian.

It appears that 6-year-old Avielle Richman moved to Newtown from San Diego in recent years. An Aug. 28 post on her blog, apparently written by her parents, says, “Our little hummingbird is starting first grade tomorrow.”

Her school, of course, …

… was Sandy Hook Elementary where, police say, 20-year-old Adam Lanza opened fire with a semiautomatic AR-15 type rifle Friday morning, killing 20 children and 6 adults.

Cops say he also fatally shot his mother and, finally, himself.

Richman graduated from kindergarten at Sandy Hook in spring, so it's not clear exactly when she moved east. A blog post says she missed the Southern California weather, though:

While I would love to be living back in San Diego and its easy-on-the-weatherman 700 and sunny everyday weather, I sure do love the four seasons here. The fall colors are amazing right now.

According to her blog, she took horse-riding lessons, had a pony named Betty, enjoyed two family cats and celebrated her sixth birthday in October.
