2 Teens, 1 Woman Dead after Semi-Truck Rear-End Accident near Bowman Road

COTTONWOOD, CA (March 25, 2022) – A crash on Interstate 5 killed Autumn Craytor, Ivy Spangle, and Jordan Verdugo early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. on the southbound lanes of the freeway just south of the Cottonwood truck scales, near Bowman Road.

Per reports, a white 2018 Kia 4-door vehicle rear-ended a commercial truck parked on the shoulder of the freeway. The Kia driver, identified as 16-year-old Ivy Spangle of Red Bluff, died at the scene.

Additionally, 15-year-old Autumn Craytor and a 20-year-old woman from Cottonwood also died at the scene. Meanwhile, the other 21-year-old female passenger of Red Bluff from inside the Kia sustained major injuries.

The truck driver, identified as 47-year-old Rodney Hill of Elk Grove, did not sustain injuries.

California Highway Patrol officeres said Spangle and Craytor were wearing a seat belt at the time, but Verdugo and the 21-year-old were not. It is unknown if drugs and alcohol were a factor in the collision.

At this time, Cottonwood Officials are working to identify further details.
