You've been replaced as L.A.'s top hipster neighborhood, as far as we're concerned. The in-the-know readers of Curbed LA have declared this week that Atwater Village, and not the stereotypical icon of L.A. cool, Silver Lake, is the site's “neighborhood of the year” for 2012.

Frankly, the hipness of Silver Lake has long been overrated, as its property values are way too expensive to encourage a bohemian lifestyle (unless by bohemian you mean $1 million homes).

Silver Lake's cool lies more in its history as an east-of-Hollywood edge with gay and artistic roots. No longer.
Atwater seems to retain that gang-adjacent thrill and relatively low-rent chill while attracting newish businesses like Golden Road Brewing, Thank You For Coming and the Cognoscenti Pop Up Coffee Shop, not to mention the hipster mainstay, The Bigfoot Lodge.
In what Curbed described as a “hipster deathmatch,” voters favored Atwater to Silver Lake in the finals of its annual competition.
