In 2011, when private chef and urban farmer Piper Goldstein decided to open her grocery store, Atwater Village Farm, she raised money on Kickstarter to help with the initial costs. Now, she’s raising funds again, but this time through GoFundMe, because she’s busy fighting cancer, taking her focus away from her store . 

As the sole owner of the healthy corner grocery, the 43-year-old Los Angeles native wants to make sure her little shop is open for the community while she undergoes chemotherapy.

“People rely on us, and I’m committed to this neighborhood. It’s just there are days I feel good, and days I don’t, so running things is difficult when I’m so wiped out. It’s such a head game. I opened this business because I’m mindful of what I eat and wanted to share that. I want to get better and get back to that.”

If you’re interested in helping, you can visit her heartfelt page on GoFundMe. If you’re in Atwater Village the shop is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. They stock lots of locally raised produce and pantry staples, and have food to go. 

“My life is magical. I have a fantastic quality of life and my world is spectacular on many levels. I just need to move past this and get back to it.”
