Tomorrow night at the Los Angeles Convention Center downtown, the MusiCares Foundation will honor Neil Diamond with its Person of the Year award, and a bunch of superstar bands will take the stage to celebrate The Action Man and his music. Among them will be the Foo Fighters (of course — is there any gig they don't play?), Coldplay, Adele, Josh Groban, Tim McGraw, Kid Rock, Urge Overkill (no, really! They'll no doubt do their great version of “Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon”) and others.

But one band that's performing, Los Volcanes of Seattle, has taken a very unlikely path to land on the stage. The tejano band, out of the blue and having never met the man himself, got a phone call from Neil Diamond in the fall, and the story that lead them to travel to LA to perform “Red Red Wine” during tomorrow night's concert is a fascinating one.
