Seven homes were destroyed At least 41 homes were damaged — five were reportedly red-tagged as uninhabitable — following a rain-triggered mudslide in the foothills of La Canada-Flintridge Saturday morning. The slide was reported about 5 a.m. Manistee Drive off Ocean View Boulevard and also damaged other homes and swept away cars.

A second wave of evacuations of as many as 500 residents were ordered Saturday. Evacuations were reportedly ordered for the Ocean View Boulevard area earlier. The mud flows were so strong at points that they knocked over K-rails erected as preventative measures in communities below the Station Fire burn area.

Another slide was reported nearby on Fairhurst Drive near Rock Castle Drive about 3:30 a.m., and some evacuations were ordered.

Elsewhere, Nichols Canyon Road in the Hollywood Hills was closed following a a mud flow, a city fire spokesman said. A Los Angeles Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue Team was being sent to the area as a precaution. Finally, Topanga Canyon Road north of Pacific Coast Highway and south of Grand View Drive in Topanga was shut down by a mudslide, California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos said.

Meanwhile, several businesses were reported to have been damaged by six-inch flood waters on Melrose Avenue between North Vista and North Gardner streets.
